Before the flood.

You had to be there.
Hosting friends from Australia on their first visit to Guilin and the drought broke just before they got here. A week ago the river was too low for regular riverboat cruises. On Saturday it was navigable again, on Sunday we took a four-hour bamboo raft ride from Yangshuo and saw the river that has been inspiring artists, poets and songwriters for centuries. The clouds swirling through the peaks present a quite different face to what I have seen before. Magic. I need something better than my laptop, and Photoshop to process the photos, but till then, here is a teaser. I might even try to paint this scene.
